Workshop Description

NOTE: FREE CE for NASW-NY members.

This training is designed for providers seeking to strengthen their understanding of evidence-based approaches to treating Anxiety Disorders. Participants will gain an overview of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (E/RP), with practical guidance on how to integrate these techniques into their therapeutic practice.

Building on core principles from each modality, the training highlights clinical decision-making frameworks that help providers assess avoidance patterns, identify safety behaviors, and target the cognitive, behavioral, and physiological mechanisms that maintain anxiety.

Through case illustrations, scripts, and sample interventions, participants will explore how to structure exposures, sequence skills, and adapt language to support motivation and treatment buy-in.

Special attention will be paid to assessment strategies, including differential diagnosis across anxiety presentations, and ways to respond when clients experience treatment-interfering behaviors, heightened distress, or slowed progress.

Strategies for tailoring interventions to the unique needs of children, adolescents, and their caregivers will also be emphasized, equipping clinicians with concrete skills to promote more effective distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and family-supported change.

Learning Objectives

After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe therapeutic techniques used in the evidence-based treatment of Anxiety Disorders.
  • Create effective treatment plans tailored to a client’s presenting concerns and unique barriers to treatment.
  • Apply these techniques in work with minors and engage caregivers to support treatment effectiveness.
