Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Concepts and Clinical Practice
Tuesday, April 21, 2026 | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM EST
Workshop Description
This continuing education course explores cutting-edge applications of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) using transdiagnostic and process-based approaches that reflect the latest developments in evidence-based practice. Participants will examine how CBT demonstrates large effect sizes for major depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, with very large effect sizes for PTSD and specific phobia. The course emphasizes transdiagnostic mechanisms including aversive reactivity, positive affectivity, and cognitive restructuring that operate across multiple disorders rather than diagnosis-specific protocols. Participants will explore third-wave CBT innovations integrating mindfulness, acceptance, and values-based strategies alongside traditional cognitive and behavioral techniques. The curriculum includes neurobiological findings showing how CBT enhances connectivity between the prefrontal cortex and emotion regulation centers. Special attention is given to digital CBT delivery models, including guided internet-delivered CBT (iCBT) which demonstrates superiority over unguided approaches and non-inferiority to face-to-face treatment. Practice applications for social work settings including community agencies, hospitals, schools, and private practice are integrated throughout.
NOTE: This program is part of a two-session mini-series on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Each session is a stand-alone offering — participants may register individually or attend both for a total of 6.0 Continuing Education Credits (CEs).
The presenter has requested that all participants keep their camera and audio on (and working) throughout the session to support a highly interactive learning experience.
Learning Objectives
After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Analyze client presentations using the Tridimensional CBT (TriD-CBT) model to identify controllable components within cognitive, emotional, and behavioral domains that maintain psychological problems.
- Analyze client presentations using the Tridimensional CBT (TriD-CBT) model to identify controllable components within cognitive, emotional, and behavioral domains that maintain psychological problems.
- Implement third-wave CBT strategies including mindfulness-based interventions, acceptance techniques, and values clarification exercises that complement traditional cognitive restructuring and behavioral activation.
- Design CBT treatment plans that integrate both upregulation of positive affect and downregulation of negative affect to enhance intervention efficacy for emotional disorders.
