Workshop Description

This training explores the ethical and clinical complexities of dual and multiple relationships in mental health practice through real-world case studies and practical discussion.

Participants will examine professional boundaries that can arise when personal and professional lives intersect, including situations commonly faced in rural communities, religious groups, LGBTQ+ communities, and among military veterans.

Designed to meet the New York State requirement for 3 hours of professional boundaries training, this course provides mental health professionals with guidance for navigating ethical dilemmas, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and strengthening professional decision-making across a range of practice settings.

Important Note: This course is designed to meet the NYS requirement of mental health professionals to receive 3 hours of training on maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. This course is NOT New York State specific and can satisfy ethics, boundaries, and general CE requirements for any state.

 

Learning Objectives

After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the ethical and legal responsibility of mental health professionals to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
  • Define dual and multiple relationships in clinical practice.
  • Apply a framework to avoid dual and multiple relationships whenever possible.
  • Apply strategies to minimize potential harm to clients and professionals when dual or multiple relationships are unavoidable.

Kathryn Krase, Ph.D., J.D., M.S.W.

Kathryn Krase is Principal Consultant with Krase Consultant and an expert on the professional reporting of suspected child maltreatment. She has authored multiple books and articles and has extensive experience consulting with government and community-based organizations to develop policy and practice standards.
