A New Chapter for New York Social Workers

The NASW National Board of Directors has approved the unification of the New York City and New York State Chapters into one single, statewide New York Chapter.

This change is about strengthening our collective impact—offering more comprehensive services, expanding educational opportunities, and speaking with one unified voice on public policy across the state.

A Transition Advisory Committee, led by the current chapter presidents and supported by NASW national staff, is guiding this process. Executive Director Shakira A. Kennedy, PhD, LMSW will oversee the transition.

Your NASW membership will remain the same—programs, benefits, and services will continue uninterrupted.

We’re committed to a smooth and transparent transition and look forward to your feedback and engagement in shaping the future of our unified chapter.
